This course teaches beginner practices and techniques for dancers and educators wishing to learn more about the screendance genre. Throughout the semester, you will develop an understanding of the history of screendance as well as gain the basic skills needed to make a short dance film. From idea conception to choreography, camera angles, editing, navigating film festivals, and more, you will receive hands-on experience as you work to execute your screendance vision with the help of your class peers and instructor. This course will serve as an introduction to screendance filmmaking, give you a well-rounded understanding of both dance and filmmaking, and foster an appreciation for this growing art form.

Brand New Course Launching in Spring 2025

Marla Moore has been a Texas public school dance educator, dance/drill team director, and choreographer for the past 11 years. She holds a Master of Arts in Dance from Texas Woman’s University and received the 2024 TWU Dance Outstanding Graduate Student Award. Her master’s research was on Texas dance/drill team director stipends where she investigated how Texas public high school dance/drill team directors were compensated for their work, and additionally, how their compensation compared to directors and coaches of other extracurricular activities. Her undergraduate work in exercise physiology was completed at Baylor University where she was a member of the Songleaders dance team and minored in dance. Marla also grew up with an interest in film and has been able to work as a producer, choreographer, and dance advisor on award-winning short and feature films. Through her passion for both film and dance, she began experimenting with directing dancefilms.
