Welcome to Dance Education in Practice (DEiP). This journal provides a rich resource for dance educators. Each issue includes articles from teachers about what they do in the studio and classroom, which we hope will inspire you in your own practice. DEiP Call for Papers

Special Issue - Dance and Wellness

Dance can be both a cathartic act which heals but also create feelings of professional burnout or emotional exhaustion. This special issue of Dance Education in Practice seeks articles pertaining to dance and wellness. The expected date of publiccation is December 2025.  Possible topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Studio practices which promote emotional well-being.
  • Professional strategies for overcoming burnout or staying inspried in dance education.
  • Re-evaluation your curriculum to support mental health in dancers.
  • Combating competition stree.
  • Inclusive practices for dancers with trauma.
  • Rejuvenating practices for aging dance educators.
  • Creating low stress performance opportunities.
  • Recognizing perfectionist mindsets and how to heal them.
  • Understanding post pandemic mental health in dancers and dance educators.
  • Developing a healthy studio culture.
  • Resources for supporting dancer with mental health challenges.
  • Empathetic and effective approaches for working with injured dancers.

An online subscription (including access to back issues) of DEiP is included with Professional, Young Professional, PhD/EdD Candidate, Institutional, Undergraduate and Graduate Student memberships. Retirees can purchase DEiP for an additional $10.

Effective with Volume 20(2) - June 2020 - The Journal of Dance Education and Dance Education in Practice went fully online. This change impacts all future issues and volumes. We look forward to providing you with the same great content in a convenient online format, while reducing our environmental impact and ensuring the financial health of the organization. NDEO will no longer mail print copies of its two journals.
